Issue date: 5/12/08 Section: Opinion
Well beach brats, it's time to get the sand from between your toes, lay that swimsuit to rest, and bid summer ado because lady autumn is upon us. No need to pout when autumn is bringing her friend fall fashion with her!
The traditional colors of fall are not heavily incorporated in designer's collections this year. Richer and more elegant hues are common this season according to professional color expert company Pantone. From Zac Posen to Marc Jacobs to Oscar de la Renta colors like burnt orange, royal lilac and blue iris are giving autumn the pop of color she needs.
Right along with brighter hues, texture and plaid prints grace most collections. Everything from lace and ribbons to bows give off the ultra feminine ambiance-yes even on Farmer John plaid shirts.
The Industrial Belt city style (reminiscent of the 1950's) not only imposes itself on women's fashion this season through plaid prints and wide leg denim, but its strong influences are apparent in menswear as well.
As the fall semester begins, revamping a few vital pieces to your collegiate wardrobe can kick your semester into high gear. Though fashion isn't always the first thing on a college students' minds; there is absolutely nothing wrong with sporting an outfit other than your Spongebob Pj's to your eight o'clock class. Since most college students don't have disposable income, a total wardrobe makeover may be completely out of the question, but owning and incorporating a few versatile pieces will definitely open up your clothing options. Stores such as Old Navy, Forever 21 and H&M offer the most recent and hottest trends for prices that keep your pockets green.
Jeans, tees and hoodies are the basics for both guys and girls on college campuses. Opting for comfort is usually frowned upon by fashion elites because it equals poor fashion choices. That is ridiculous. Wearing your correct size and making sure the clothes fit properly can be just as comfy as an oversized tee-shirt or hoodie.
Accessorizing is key. Scarf's-which are one of the hottest accessories-shoes, book bags and jewelry (for ladies) can be the Oreo to your milk to bring any outfit to life. Just note it's all about being yourself and incorporating your own twist.
Following trends may make you fashionably up-to-date but if certain trends don't fit your personal style, you may be considered a fashion misfit! If you're second guessing it, don't wear it-even if it's the latest and hottest trend.
Incorporating fashion tips to your already polished fashionista(o) style never makes the worst dressed list-because being yourself is always the must have trend.
